Dr. Mills is a Jackson native and a lifelong Mississippi resident. He attended Jackson Academy high school and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi where he was a member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. During his undergraduate career, Dr. Mills served as an Emergency Medical Responder for North Mississippi Emergency Medical Services and served as a veterinary technician at the Animal Clinic of Oxford and was a volunteer at the Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society.

During veterinary school, Dr. Mills spent time around the country working with veterinary specialists in New York City and Washington D.C. where he received advanced training in various veterinary specialties. In addition, Dr. Mills  worked for the American Veterinary Medical Association's Governmental Relations Division in Washington D.C. where he worked with legislators as an advocate for pets and their owners on issues pertinent to animal welfare and the animal health industry. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degree from the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Mills has practiced as a veterinarian in Madison for the past four years and decided to found URGIVET Emergency Vets of Madison after seeing the huge need for an emergency and urgent care veterinary clinic in the Madison area.

In addition to being an emergency facility,  URGIVET strives to not only provide the best medical care for their patients possible, but to make a stressful situation as comfortable and convenient for both you and your pet. If your pet has to stay with them overnight for continued care, they provide text updates throughout the night in addition to phone call updates from the doctor to keep you posted on the status of your four-legged family members. Many patients will need to be transported to their primary vet clinic in the morning for continued care. For those owners who have to work in the morning or are unable to transport their pets, they can transport them to your local vet for you. These are just a few examples of the URGIVET difference and how they strive to provide the best for their clients. Urgivet is a state-of-the-art facility in central Mississippi for advanced emergency and surgical care and is open after hours & weekends!

URGIVET is an extension of the primary care veterinarian—they work as a team to provide the most comprehensive and advanced care possible. As part of the team approach, all medical information is shared with the primary care veterinarian so that a complete medical record is available through the primary care veterinary clinic. URGIVET primarily treats canine and feline patients and does not provide routine or elective health-care procedures such as vaccinations, spay/neuter services and dentistry.

At first, the thought of using another clinic for emergency services is nerve-racking.  If you fit into this train of thought please keep reading.  Below are a list of reasons why we believe this is the best medicine for your pet.

#1)  They have after hours staff including doctors that are monitoring your pet continuously.

#2)  They are staffed by specialists who are trained to handle emergency situations and deal with them on a

        regular basis.

#3)  The faster your pet is actually diagnosed, the faster he will be treated and begin healing.

#3)  Our staff does need time off to recuperate.  They work very hard for our clients 40+ hours a week!

While it may seem a good feeling to drop your pet off at your local clinic (that you know) the reality is, that your pet only received a partial workup and is most likely just hanging-out until the morning!  Unless they are a true 24 hour clinic...   We are striving to provide the best medicine available for your pet...

At Mannsdale Animal Clinic we pride ourselves in doing the best medicine possible for your pets.  If you have an after-hours emergency please click the link below to be taken to URGIVET/ Emergency Vets of Madison website.  They are located at 15 Olympic Way Madison, MS  and handle all of our emergencies.  They are a full service, fully staffed emergency center.
